Snow Day!

Snow day! Snow day! Lovely, lovely snow day! What a pity I still have to go to the shop. Snow days are quite rare these days seems a shame to waste them working. But, as time progresses forward without our willing consent, I find myself an adult with the responsibilities of an adult and, grudgingly, I give up all thoughts of the fun a snow day offers and set about getting ready to go to work. I march off, puffed up with stoic adultness, to my daily grind. Leaving all the childlike whispers of the fun of snowdays behind me...........except for the snowball fight on the way to the car!

So totally forgot!! Today is the 13th anniversary of my quitting smoking!! Now therein lies a tale.....

Becoming Whole

Today I linked my two blogs together. One, 'Twilight Calls the Dream of Art', showcases my artwork, and it is called that because the dream, my dream, of being an artist, seems only to be realized in the waning light of day for me. After the hurried hectic chaos I call a life has eaten of most of my time and energy; dinner cooked and served, the dishes done, the bedtime story read, the laundry folded....that is when I can eek out a small portion of my day to explore and create, to push my dream along the way to fruition.
The other blog, this blog, Somnium Iterum, showcases my totally chaotic thought processes. It is called Somnium Iterum, which is latin for "Daydreaming Again." And that of course is exactly what my 'chaotic thought processes' are..........daydreams. I'm just off in my own little world here..........thinking, planning,.............daydreaming. Which, of course, I thought I'd share with you.   Lucky you :-)
Yeah....I know.....what was I thinking. I just figured I needed to put the two parts together. They feed off each other, well one feeds more off the other....as to which see if you can figure it out. I just finally decided that I needed to be in a way....whole. If that doesn't make sense to you...well....stick around....there'll be more like that.

Inspiration

For awhile now I have been trying to breathe life back into my Muse. As you may or may not know she was beaten to near death by Responsibility in the late 80's and early 90's.  Time being what it is, a continous flow, I can do nothing to take back the years lost to that action. Not that I would....I like what I did gain, more or less, from those years. They have made me what I am today, for better or worse, as the case may be. I just regret that loss of creation in my life. It had a habit of spilling into everything I did daily, but there is no artistic record of my life for the last 13 years. And that is sad to me. I have decided that I can't afford to do that again. No matter what is going on in my life  there will be a place for art, for creation, from now on. To that end I have carved out one day a week for 'Studio Day'. One day that I set aside for art, for creation. I put aside all else and just indulge in my art. I let my Muse out to wander. One day for now...with an eye on the future. There is so much I want to do. But for now I do what I can. And what I can do is keep making art and not letting it slip out of my life anymore. One way I am getting inspired is by participating in a project by a collective of artists on Twitter. They have resolved to complete a drawing a day for a year. It's called #draw365. It is a commitment to draw everyday. I find it keeps me focused on my art. I get inspired by all the different works the artists are posting on #draw365. I see new artists that I would never have seen otherwise. It's really the best source of inspiration I've had since I sat in the hallways of the college with my art classmates in the 80's (Boy I learned a lot in those hallways!). For now it keeps me going...keeps me inspired. And my Muse, she is just reveling in her new found freedom. After 13 years of being held down by Responsiblity, she has taken wings and  is ready to fly!

Reporting to the Time Police

Doing what you want, when you want for a living is a scary proposition. I always feel like I have to justify how I spend my time to people. When I have to tell my husband that I turned down a subbing job (or haven't picked one up) I feel guilty, even if I have a good reason. If I am at the office of our shop and I need to leave early I feel like I'm doing something wrong. "You should be working!" something in my heads says. It has a tendency to creep into my head when I am not doggedly working in the studio that I am wasting time. "You're wasting time!" I yell at my self. Time is something that I value highly. There is never enough of it for me. I want the world to slow it's rotation so I can get a few extra hours a day. Then I can use them.... to do work....what else?!

Today was Studio Day. I have designated every Thursday as a day that I spend entirely in my studio. No phones are answered. No televisions are on. There is music and Twitter (because I need verbalization with the world) and there is quiet too. I find this time to be very reenergizing for the rest of my week. I get artistic, creative work done and recharge my soul. I'm really liking Thursdays!
